Just as Bhava (expressions), Raga (musical tone) and Tala (rhythm) are interwoven to form the beautiful art form of Bharatanatyam; Abhinaya, poise and rhythm define, Rashmitha as a dancer. She is a passionate artist with a vision to understand, explore, and communicate this vast ocean of cultural heritage. A performer and classical arts educator, she actively performs as a soloist, has been one of the principal dancer for group productions by ‘Bharatanjali’ and teaches students at the prestigious institution Nrityakalamandiram and is the founder-director of Spriha Academy Based out of Zürich.
An ICCR Empanelled artist and a graded artist with Doordarshan Kendra Bengaluru, she is the senior disciple of Guru B. Bhanumati and Guru Smt. Sheela Chandrasekhar, having trained under them, in the Vazhavoor style, at their Institution Nrityakalamandiram. In her quest to deepen her knowledge and delve into the finer nuances of Abhinaya, choreography, Nattuvangam and Konnakkol, she continues her training under her eminent gurus. She refines her craft with advanced Abhinaya sessions under Guru Smt. Bragha Bessel, the renowned Abhinaya exponent, the beautiful Karanas from Guru Shobha Shashikumar and trains in Odissi under Guru Sarita Misra.
Her passion for dance went alongside her academic foray as she is an Engineering graduate and has an MBA in Marketing. Having worked a few years in the IT industry, she is now pursuing her true calling of Bharatanatyam and Odissi, with vigour, dedication and deep-rooted passion. In her dance journey, she was the recipient of the silver medal for excellence in MA Dance ( Bharatanatyam) and has been conferred the title of Nattuvanga Kalaimani by Annamalai University.
As an educator, she has trained many students around the world emphasizing that dance is not just rhythm and movement, but a deeply engaging mind and body connection that can truly transform anybody who practices it with devotion. Her methodologies include workshops and dance modules suited differently for each student.
As a performing artist, Rashmitha has performed at many eminent avenues and festivals in India. Rashmitha’s stay in China was a wonderful amalgamation of two distinct, yet strong cultural bearings in which Rashmitha was part of Indian embassy in China’s Soft power cultural outreach initiatives and programs. Rashmitha is currently based out of Zurich, and continues to spread the wings of Bharatanatyam through her years of experience.
With her keen ability to understand the nuances of this beautiful art form and the interest to propagate its pristine beauty, Rashmitha continues to perform, teach and be surrounded in the art form that is so close to her heart.
