Jui Deshingkar

Profile
Jui Deshingkar is a performing artist, teacher and facilitator whose practice is rooted in Bharatanatyam and shaped by her engagement with music and movement.
She has been practicing Bharatanatyam under the guidance and mentorship of Guru Mrs. Priya Joshi (Kalanilayam Centre for Dance). Over the years, she has developed her practice through professional performance and continued exploration of movement pursuing Bachelors and Masters in Performing Arts from Lalit Kala Kendra, Pune University and Department of Dance, University of Hyderabad.
Her education includes study on Abhinaya, Texts and Treatises on dance, Music for dance, Knowledge of Western Ballet and Modern dance, Notations and so on. She has excelled in NET UGC with a clearance of Assistant Professorship and competitive examinations of Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya till the level of Visharad.
Her work moves between solo performance, ensemble productions and teaching. Her independently conceived solo recital, ‘Sankrama’ and a thematic production ‘A Stitch in Time Saves Nine’ (Sankeerna) have marked an important step in her journey as a performer and a choreographer along with her participation in many productions and festivals in India and Switzerland.
While Bharatanatyam remains central to her practice, Jui continues to explore other movement forms including Bollywood and Contact Improvisation. She choreographs for wedding sangeet, Insta reels and facilitates sessions for team-building and body fitness. She has had introductory exposure to other forms and practices such as Kalaripayattu, Kathak, Chhau, Martha Graham technique, Belly Dance to mention a few.
Music is an integral part of the way she approaches dance. Her engagement with Carnatic vocal music under the guidance of Guru Shri. Sivaprasad N.N. and Konnakol under the guidance of Guru Shri. Vidwan Mumbai Shankarnarayanan has expanded her horizons with respect to rhythm and the relationship between sound, movement, and the body. For her, music is not separate from dance but a part of the same creative process.
Teaching is an equally important part of her practice. She has a decade long experience of working with students, from beginners to advanced practitioners, and is interested in creating spaces that bring together technique, body awareness, musicality, and an understanding of Indian traditions and culture.
Having begun her professional work and teaching in Switzerland, Jui is currently based in Zurich and is gradually developing her artistic and educational practice within the European context. Her future interest lies not only in creating and performing thematic productions and collaborative works, but also in finding ways for Bharatanatyam to enter into dialogue with other movement practices, artists, and ways of thinking about the body.
Aalayam Centre for Performance and Wellness is envisioned as a space for this journey where dance, music, and mindful movement can come together through practice and shared learning.
