Profile

Domenica Huber is a Swiss Bharatanatyam dancer whose artistic journey is deeply rooted in Indian classical dance, culture, language, and philosophy. Her fascination with India began in early childhood, when she listened to Bollywood music and bought videos of Indian dance choreographies, dreaming of becoming an Indian dancer herself. This early fascination gradually developed into a lifelong engagement with India and ist artistic traditions.

She has been practising Bharatanatyam for approximately ten years and has studied with Dr. Sharmila Rao in Zurich since 2018, completing her Arangetram with her in 2022. For several years, she has also studied with Vithya Arasu (Pondicherry/Colombo), focusing particularly on the Karanas of the Natya Shastra. She regularly undertakes intensive periods of study with her and has begun integrating the Karanas into her own dance repertoire.

Her artistic education also includes Odissi with Dr. Arpita Venkatesh (Kolkata) and Carnatic vocal music with Purnima Venugopal (Kolkata). These disciplines broaden her understanding of Indian performance traditions and inform her exploration of movement, rhythm, and expression.

Domenica has performed at various events, including SIFAA Margazhi and the ISKCON Radha Yatra. She was also part of *Leela – Emotions of Life* by Sharmila Rao and Stuti Aga. In November 2025, she presented her second solo Bharatanatyam programme, *Natya Priya*, in Baden. She has also performed at student performances as well as weddings, birthday celebrations, studio openings, and cultural festivals.

Domenica has spent several years in India, travelling extensively and living for a time in an ashram in Kerala, where she focused on meditation, selfless service, and spiritual growth. She also lived in Dharamsala, where she studied Tibetan. She studied Indology and Linguistics at the University of Zurich and holds a Diploma in Buddhism from Nalanda University in Delhi, specialising in Tibetan Buddhism.

Her goal is to continue immersing herself ever more deeply in Indian culture, to develop a more profound understanding of dance, and to grow continuously both technically as a dancer and personally as a human being.
